Tuesday 24th March 2020

Good morning!

Hope you’re all well and safe. Here is the home learning plan for today. Remember to email me on if you have any learning-related questions. It would also be nice to see photos of your learning.

Mrs Harvey smiley

Log onto TT Rockstars and spend 15 minutes practising the timetables.

LI: To add and subtract decimals.

Write the date, Roman numeral date and the LI in your maths home learning book.

Today, you will be focusing on adding and subtracting decimal numbers.

Complete at least two of the worksheets in your home learning books.

LI: To write a persuasive letter.

Write the long date and the LI in your literacy home learning books.

Today, you are going to write a draft of a persuasive letter to a company who still uses palm oil about the effect it is having on habitats. You are going to persuade them to stop using palm oil.

We know from our previous writing piece that palm oil comes from palm trees which are planted in hot and humid climates. This means that they are destroying rainforests.

Remember to include:

  • Persuasive language
  • Features of a letter (address, date, greeting, introduction, closing)
  • Paragraphs
  • First person
  • Appropriate level of formality
  • Range of year 6 punctuation
  • Year 6 spelling
  • Fronted adverbials
  • Parenthesis
  • Joined handwriting

Write this in your literacy home learning books. It is up to you whether you write a line and leave a line or not. Tomorrow's activity will be to edit your writing.

I have attached the year 5/6 spellings into resource folder for today.

Read a book of your choice. Once you have read for 15 minutes, summarise what you have read to an adult.

LI: To identify ways rivers are used.

Turn to the back of your literacy book and write the long date and LI.

Today, you will be thinking about all the ways rivers are used across the world.

Task 1

I would like you to think of all the ways we use rivers.

Example – fishing.

Once you have your list of uses, can you categories these into three groups? Draw the table in your book and fill it out.

Task 2

Choose one of the ways rivers are used from each category and answer the following questions in your book.

  1. What are the positive effects?
  2. What are the negative effects?

1. Fishermen help control the fish population.

2. Fishermen may over-fish come species making them endangered or extinct.

I know PE is not on the list for you to do today however, I just wanted to let you know that Joe Wicks is doing a PE session every morning on his YouTube channel from 9am if you would like to get involved. I’ve copied the link below if anyone is interested.
