Welcome Class of 2026!

I’m Mrs Rowan, and I’ll be your teacher this year. I’m so happy to have each and every one of you in my class, and I can’t wait for all the fun, learning, and growing we’ll do together.

Year 6 is a special year – it’s your final year of primary school, and it’s full of new challenges, exciting opportunities, and plenty of moments to shine. Whether it’s building confidence in your learning, taking on new responsibilities, or preparing for the next big step into secondary school, I’ll be here to support you every step of the way.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Inspiring topics and creative projects

  • Working together as a team

  • Becoming independent, confident learners

  • School trips and memorable experiences

  • And lots of fun along the way!

This classroom will be a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and encouraged to be their best. Mistakes are part of learning, and together, we’ll make this year one to be proud of.

Parent and carers, if you would like to speak to me or another member of staff you can write a note in your child's diary, phone the office to arrange a telephone call, or email info@woodhouses.oldham.sch.uk

Thank you

Mrs Rowan

Important days

Thursday and Friday - PE

Please ensure your child has both indoor and outdoor PE kit in school on these days. PE is a vital part of children education and being active so they need to have their PE kits to ensure they can participate. In addition, no earrings or watches are to be worn during PE lessons.

Thursday - Spelling Test

The children will receive their new spellings every Thursday in their spelling book and will have one week to practice them before the test. The spelling list will also be uploaded onto the Year 6 homework page every Thursday so the children can still practice their spellings at home should they leave their spelling books in school.

Other important information

Reading

It is really important that you child reads for at least 10-15 minutes each night. Reading helps with all subjects across the curriculum. The more children read the better their understanding and comprehension becomes, which is essential for their development and to prepare them for their future.

Times tables

We will be practicing times tables in class every day but it is important children practice them at home, whether that is on TTRockstars, hit the button or another way they like to learn them. Times tables are the foundation of all maths skills, knowledge and understanding and it is essential children do their best to know them.

Homework

Homework will be set every half term on learning by questions. Your child has their log ins for these websites, However, if you have any issues please let me know.

SATS practice

Every half term we will be doing a SATS practice week to prepare children for their SATs in May. It is important for us to identify strengths and weaknesses for each child so we can tailor any support to the areas of the curriculum children may need additional support with. This is to been seen as a positive experience for the children so they can see their progress and feel a sense of acheivement and when they take part in their SATs in May, they will hopefully feel prepared and less worried or stressed. However, throughout the year I will do everything I can to help your child and ensure they feel at ease and happy. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to me.
